The history of how the Surya company started is very interesting. In 1976, in the small Northeastern village of Ugapur, India, Surya M. Tiwari was a talented man who knew his life had a purpose. Bombay was known for its modern technology and its luxurious accommodation therefore Surya decided to go there in search of possibility and prosperity. When he came to the very famous Taj Hotel, he was introduced to the Federated Group which is known today as Macy’s Inc (NYSE: M). This company went to India in 1976 in search of new products for their growing number of American retail stores. Local, hand-made goods extremely interested The Federated Group and they were inviting anyone who could manufacture and supply these items to them.

Surya Designers:

Surya was lucky enough to speak with the buyers and pitch his ideas. He was able to convince the Federated buyers that his products were right for their market and he began his journey to success.

Surya continued to supply his Federated clients with products through his company, over the next several years. He named his company Surya, after his own name. His first collection of rugs consisted of simple hand-knotted pieces which were comprised of only one or two colors. His business was growing, and after a very long, difficult and successful journey he began establishing his company abroad.

Surya was given the opportunity to establish his business from within the United States in 1986. Many people loved his work and his customer satisfaction demanded him to create more and more products for people to choose from.

Today, Surya is known as one of the leading rug manufactures in the US. Surya Rugs range from many different styles of traditional, modern and contemporary rugs.
